Oxford Hoard was one of the 14 varieties raised by Frederick William Wastie, the Eynsham apple breeder in 1922. It is a cross between Sturmer Pippin and Golden Russet and was first exhibited in 1942.
Oxford Hoard is a vigorous tree, self-sterile and requires a pollination partner from group 3. The apples are ready to harvest quite late in the year and will keep in storage for three months.
The medium size apples have noticeably angular sides and are yellow blushed with orange on the sun exposed face. The apples are crisp and juicy and develop a sweet, aromatic flavour in November. They are used for eating.
