Planning applications
The local authority responsible for planning decisions is Cherwell District Council.
Yarnton Parish Council is informed about planning applications related to developments within the parish boundary although some small developments known as ‘Permitted Development’ will be decided without reference to the Parish Council.
All applications to Cherwell District Council may be viewed and commented on via the Cherwell District Council website. It is helpful if you have the application reference number, but searches may be based on an address or other identifying detail.
Useful pre-application information relevant to residents planning property building, extensions or alterations is available on the CDC website.

Proposed and planned developments
Cherwell District Council’s Local Plan adopted in 2020 includes the building of ~ 2,400 dwellings in Yarnton Parish. Yarnton Parish Council objected to this development on the grounds of it being on Green Belt; inadequate traffic infrastructure; and potential of increased flooding risk to the village of Yarnton. There are a number of developments proposed or planned in Yarnton and neighbouring parishes:
Land to the East of the A44 (PR8)
1,900 homes to the east of the A44 and bordering Kidlington. There are 2 developers.
- The Oxford University Development (a joint venture between University of Oxford and Legal and General Capital) is creating a £1billion, 190-hectare mixed-use Innovation District.
- Hallam Land Management development of 300 dwellings to the south of the Shell garage.
Land to the West of the A44 (PR9)
500 homes to the north west of the village. The land owner, Merton College, has submitted an outline plan to Cherwell District Council.
The plan can be viewed and commented on via the following link: The erection of up to 540 dwellings etc.
