Malus domestica. Late, Dual-purpose. Origin Wilts. c.1864

Red and yellow apple with a green stem, on a wooden surface.

Roundways Magnum Bonum was raised by Mr Joy, a gardener from Roundway Park near Devizes in Wiltshire during the1860’s. The apple was presented to the RHS in 1864 and received a First-Class certificate.

This variety is both a dessert and cooking apple. The tree is vigorous and spreading, bearing fruit on spurs. The flowers require pollination partners from group 4. Roundways Magnum Bonum is a late cropper and apples can be picked in late October and then kept in cold storage until March.

The apples are large and golden green over which are wide, pale red streaks and scattered patches of russet. The flesh is yellowish, coarse textured and crisp, very juicy with a sweet, pear flavour.
