King’s Acre Pippin was first recorded in 1887 and introduced by King’s Acre Nurseries in Hereford in 1889. It arose as a cross between Sturmer Pippin and Ribston Pippin and received an award of merit from the RHS in 1897.
King’s Acre Pippin is a late dessert apple. The tree is a self- sterile triploid cultivar and needs a pollinating partner from group 3.
The apples can be picked in October and will store until January. The apple is large and green with brownish-red flush and russet patches. The flesh is creamy white with a crispy, juicy texture. It is has a very rich flavour and delicious when eaten fresh from the tree.
